5 ways to save money on your wedding - Yorkshire wedding blog Recent studies show that the average cost of a wedding in the UK is just over £20,000. Whichever way you look at it, that’s a lot of money! Here at The Nuptial HQ we want your wedding budgets to stretch as far as possible, so here are 5 WAYS TO SAVE MONEY WHEN PLANNING YOUR WEDDING:

1. Get married off-season.
Although it can depend on the venue, off-peak wedding season is roughly September-April. Most couples want to get married during the summer when there’s optimum chance of sunshine and clear weather, so venues will often charge a premium for weddings during this time.

We got married in January and not only did we find it was cheaper, but our venue was flexible and really allowed us to work within our budget.

Off-peak doesn’t always have to mean time of year, it can apply to days of the week too. More and more couples are opting to have their weddings on a weekday to take full advantage of lower rates.

2. Have your ceremony and reception at the same venue.
Having everything all in one place cuts down on travel costs, not just for you, but for your guests too. Also, having to pay just one venue is cheaper than having to pay for two.5 ways to save money on your wedding - Yorkshire wedding blog

3. Can’t afford it? Then do it yourself!
Having a DIY wedding doesn’t have the same stigma as it once did, in fact it’s quite the opposite. A certain feeling of pride comes when you can say to others, ‘Oh this? I made it myself!’ and the list of things that you can make is endless; from invites and seating  plans, to outfits and table centrepieces, it can all be made at home. The scale of jobs which you choose to take on is up to you and if you need some inspiration there are hundreds of bridal DIYs on Pinterest.

If crafting is not your thing? Then you can always get your wedding party involved.

Me and my bridesmaids made our wedding invitations in one evening. By the end of the night the living room looked like a craft-bomb had gone off, but we’d had so much fun making them it was totally worth it.

4. Buy second hand
Gone are the days where finding second hand bargains meant scouring car boot sales and charity shops. There are ways that you can buy pre-loved items online from the comfort of your own home and we’re not just talking about Ebay. Based in Beverley, East Yorkshire, Sell My Wedding is an online marketplace for buying and selling pre-loved wedding items.  The brainchild of Rebecca Aspin, it connects newlyweds to brides-to-be and gives them a space  to advertise their wedding outfits, props and even wedding gifts. The beauty of Sell My Wedding is that not only can you save money by buying pre-loved, but you can recoup some of your wedding costs afterwards by selling your wedding items afterwards.5 ways to save money on your wedding - Yorkshire wedding blog5. Write everything down.
It’s a boring one, but keeping an eye on your spending and writing down of all your wedding expenditures is the best way to keep track of your money. Seeing figures written down can focus your mind and help you distinguish between the items that you want and the items that you really, REALLY want and help you spend within your means.
